Wuhan authorities have tightened up inspections on residents leaving and entering the city as the outbreak of a new coronavirus strain continues, People's Daily said.

No tour groups will be organized to travel outside Wuhan, capital city of Hubei Province. Police will carry out random checks on private vehicles entering or leaving Wuhan for live poultry or wild animals, People’s Daily reported on Tuesday.

More thermal scanners have been installed at the local airport, railway stations, long-distance bus stations and ferry stations to identify people with fever. Those with higher temperatures will be registered, given masks and directed to medical facilities for treatment, according to the report.

All public transport vehicles will be disinfected daily, the report said.

As of midnight of January 19, 198 coronavirus infection cases had been reported in Wuhan, and 25 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. Currently, 169 patients are still being treated in hospital, including 44 in severe or critical condition.
