Central China's Hubei Province said unfavorable weather has been forecast in the coming days, which might have a negative effect on the fight against the novel coronavirus.

A temperature drop of up to 12 degrees Celsius will hit the province, the center of the epidemic, from Tuesday, accompanied by frequent rainfall, thunder and high wind. The adverse weather may last until early March, according to the provincial diaster reduction commission.

Local governments and residents have been warned of spring epidemics caused by temperature fluctuations and high humidity, the commission said.

It also mentioned the high possibility of spring floods that may harm grain production in the province and cause secondary disasters including mountain torrents and landslides.

Forest fires are another risk due to the thunder and lightning, the commission warned.
