All aboard for extra train services during Qingming Festival
Extra train services have been put on in the Yangtze River Delta region to cater for increased demand with the start of the Qingming Festival holiday.
An estimated 4.05 million rail passenger visits are expected in the Yangtze River Delta region from April 3 to 6 over the Qingming Festival holiday, a 155 percent increase compared with the same period last month, China Railway Shanghai Group said.
More than 40 extra trains were put into service on Saturday.
Most passengers are either those visiting the tombs of relatives, or tourists making short-distance trips in the region, the group said.
The extra train services mainly involved trips from Hefei to Fuyang, Wuhu, Anqing, Liu'an and Huangshan in Anhui Province.
Also at railway stations, passengers and station workers stood in silence at 10am on Saturday to mourn martyrs in epidemic fight and those who died of the coronavirus, while departing railway trains sounded their horns.
All rail passengers are required to have their temperatures taken, wear masks and avoid gathering.
