Over 2,400 prosecuted for epidemic-related crimes in China

China's procuratorial organs prosecuted 2,416 suspects in 1,980 criminal cases related to the COVID-19 epidemic by Thursday, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said on Friday.

Meanwhile, procuratorial organs across the country had approved the arrest of 3,517 suspects involved in such crimes, figures from the SPP show.

Prosecutors filed charges against 26 suspects for crimes of hindering the prevention and control of infectious diseases, the SPP said, adding that 572 were prosecuted for obstructing official duties.

Other violations include intentional injuries, manufacturing or selling fake or inferior products, illegal business operations including price gouging, fraud, fabricating and intentionally transmitting false information and damaging wildlife resources.
