The embankment of a river in east China's Jiangxi Province was breached late on Wednesday following continuous torrential rains, forcing over 9,000 residents to evacuate.

A 50-meter dyke section of the Changjiang River collapsed in Poyang Town of Poyang County at 8:35pm on Wednesday, affecting 1,000 hectares of farmland in the low-lying area, according to the county's bureau of water resources.

No casualties were reported. More than 600 people were mobilized rushing for the rescue.

As of 1am on Thursday, the water level was still rising, inundating all the farmland of the nearby Daocao Village.
