New schools at China's prestigious university to promote health governance modernization

China's prestigious medical science research and education institution, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) and Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), recently established the School of Population Medicine and Public Health and the School of Health Policy and Management.

   The move will facilitate the coordination of healthcare and disease prevention sectors, promote research and practices related to health policies and management and advance the modernization of China's system and capacity for health governance, according to Wang Chen, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the CAMS and PUMC.

   The COVID-19 epidemic highlighted the importance of public health professionals. Wang said it has now been a top priority to strengthen the cultivation of competent disease control professionals and have high-standard public health schools.

   The School of Population Medicine and Public Health is comprised of 10 departments and four centers, and the School of Health Policy and Management has five departments, three research centers and one policy simulation laboratory.
