Hong Kong and Singapore reach agreement for 'travel bubble'
Hong Kong and Singapore reached an agreement that will eliminates quarantine requirements for residents in both cities.
Travelers who are tempted to think about using this corridor still need to perform the nucleic acid test, but if the result is negative, the quarantine requirement is eliminated. This "travel bubble” might be launched as early as next month, but December appears to be a more realistic date, according to the source.
Airlines must operate exclusive routes on which other transit passengers are not based.
Travelers can move around in any of the cities and will not need to provide a predetermined itinerary, but protection mechanisms are available to change or even suspend the travel bubble in the event of a resurgence in COVID-19 updates.
"This is the first travel bubble we have formed,” said Edward Yau Tang-wah, Hong Kong’s secretary of trade and economic development.
Singapore Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung said: "Based on our research, this is the first travel bubble in the region and perhaps in the world.”
