A fire broke out on Thursday afternoon in the Milcamps waffle factory in the Forest municipality of the Brussels Capital Region, said Pierre Meys, spokesman for the Brussels fire service.
It was still unclear whether there are any casualties and the extent of the disaster. The cause is not yet known.
Due to the toxic fume from the blaze, Mayor of Forest municipality Marc-Jean Ghyssels called on the residents of the region who have not been evacuated to stay at home. The authorities have not activated an emergency plan.
