At least two police officers in Honolulu, Hawaii, were killed Sunday morning in a shooting, local reports said.

The shooting happened near Diamond Head State Monument in Honolulu. Soon after the incident was reported, a house believed to be the scene of the shooting caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.

Hawaii News Now (HNN) quoted police sources as saying the suspect was identified as 69-year-old Jerry Hanel, and authorities believe he has died -- likely when the house he was in went up in flames. There is no manhunt for a suspect underway.

The two officers fatally shot were taken to the Queen's Medical Center in extremely critical condition and later died, and a third officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

The suspect allegedly stabbed his landlord when she tried to evict him and then opened fire at the officers, according to HNN.

After ambushing the officers with gunfire, the suspect then allegedly set fire to the home.

Witnesses in the area said the fire has spread to at least four other nearby houses, and that Honolulu firefighters were deployed nearby, waiting for police officials, who have control of the scene, to give the all-clear, according to HNN.

Several vehicles, including a marked Honolulu Police Department vehicle, were also on fire. The flames and thick smoke were visible for miles.

Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell expressed his condolences to the victims on Twitter, saying it is an unprecedented tragedy for not only the city and county of Honolulu but the entire state of Hawaii.
