1 shot dead and another injured in protest in US Kentucky

One person was killed and another injured on Saturday night in a shooting incident during a protest in the US city of Louisville, Kentucky, local authorities said.

Reports of shots fired at Jefferson Square Park came in around 9pm local time (1am GMT on Sunday), after which Jefferson County Sheriff's Department personnel arrived at the site and found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police were performing life-saving measures on the man who later died at the scene. The second victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The park has been the epicenter of protest over the death of 26-year-old emergency medical technician Breonna Taylor, an African American woman who was shot dead by police in March.
