If you like crowds of happy people, this place is right up your alley (mind the pun). If being able to move freely is your thing, you might avoid this place like the dentist.

Shanghai has been ramping up its so-called "night economy" recently, encouraging the development of night-time entertainment for the whole family. As part of that, the Shanghai Night Life Festival kicked off last night.

What better way to celebrate than by heading down to the Anyi Road Night Market, otherwise called Green Escape, near the Kerry Center.

I knew before I went that the place was going to be popular, but somehow I wasn't prepared for a line of people stretching around the block waiting to get in. I guess it's worth the wait, then.

The market, sprawled along an otherwise quiet alley, is now used for this weekend-only night market, featuring yummy food, arts and crafts, games, plants and more. It's only 264 meters long, but with the amount of people inside you should probably budget at least an hour.

If you like squeezed crowds of happy people, this place is right up your alley (mind the pun). If being able to move freely is your thing, you might avoid this place like the dentist.

Where is the market?

The Anyi Night Market is located on Anyi Road in Jing'an District, near the Jing'an Temple. Opening hours are midday to 11pm, Saturday and Sunday.
