The 2017 Shanghai International Elite 10K Race will be held on October 29, organizers announced on Monday.

The event will feature a total of 6,000 runners — 1,000 more than last year — with 5,400 competing in the 10-kilometer main race and the remaining 600 taking part in the 2K family run.

In its second year, the route for the races will continue to cover the ecological zone on the north side of the Suzhou Creek in Putuo District. The 10K race will start at 7:30am from Suzhou Creek sightseeing pier, with the finish line being set at East China Normal University.

Those interested can log on to www.shang-ma.com or use the event’s official smartphone APP to register on September 20-22.

The registration system will open a green channel on September 18-19 for "elite runners" who had achieved good results in last year’s race. Male runners who completed last year’s 10K race within 40 minutes and female runners within 50 minutes are considered “elite runners”.

Also, male runners who took part in the 2017 Shanghai International Half Marathon in April and finished the race in 1 hour and 38 minutes, as well as female runners completing the 21K distance in 1 hour and 53 minutes, are also qualified to register through the green channel.

The 10K race requires a registration fee of 100 yuan (US$15), while it is 50 yuan for the family run.

The top eight male and female finishers of the 2017 Shanghai International Elite 10K Race will be granted quotas for the 2017 Shanghai International Marathon, which will be held on November 12. The top 300 male and female runners can win spots in next year’s Shanghai International Half Marathon.
