Square dance final held in Hongkou

The final of the 2017 Shanghai Square Dancing Competition was held at Hongkou Gymnasium on Thursday, featuring a total of 22 teams from all the 16 districts of the city.

Organized by the Shanghai Sports Federation, the competition kicked off in June and held 90 preliminary and intermediary rounds in the 16 districts, involving 25,769 participants, who represented 1,444 teams.

Square dancing is among the top 10 popular sports activities for residents, according to a report by the Shanghai Sports Bureau. One out of every 10 local exercise enthusiasts is a square dance follower. The most popular sports activities are running, fast walking, cycling, badminton and swimming.
