The 2017 SECA Fencing School League Tournament, which was held at the SECA Academy in Pudong’s Jinqiao over the weekend, attracted 266 students representing 79 teams from 56 primary and middle schools.

Coming into its third year, the tournament expanded its scale by setting eight categories of group competitions in foil, sabre and epee compared to four categories in its inaugural year. The number of participants also increased from no more than 100 to the current 250-plus. They were from public, private, international and professional sports schools.

Conducting the matches based on the United States-based NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) rules has been a major characteristic of the annual tournament. Young fencers are trained for NCAA-sanctioned tournaments so that they are ready for international competition should they seek development abroad.
