The 2018 Marriott East China Charity Golf Tournament was held at the Shanghai Agile Mickelson Shanghai International Club on Friday where more than 144 golfers participated, including corporate customers, sponsorship partners and senior executives of Marriott International.

All net proceeds raised through the tournament will be donated to Marriott International’s charity partner, the Yao Foundation, to support physical education in China’s rural areas.

The Yao Foundation is a highly regarded charity organization established in 2008 by former Chinese basketball player Yao Ming.

The 2018 tournament was jointly hosted by a cluster of 91 Marriott International hotels in 22 cities, including 18 brands.

Throughout the golf tournament, the 18 different Marriott branded hotels each offered a signature culinary journey at each hole, ensuring to ensure an impressive event. It also received support from platinum sponsors BMW Group, Callaway and ARC Glassware (China) Co Ltd. The winner of the hole-in-one had the opportunity to win a BMW 630i.

Following the tournament, an award ceremony and reception was enjoyed by all players and participants in the Agile Mickelson Shanghai International Clubhouse.

“To further foster children’s education in China, we have extended the partnership and have established three Hope Primary Schools in the southwestern region of China. We have built libraries and computer rooms, donated necessary hardware, as well as provided supporting resources and organized four basketball seasons," said Alfred Gao, Chairman of Marriott East China Business Council.

“We would like to thank our sponsors and associates for their kind support for this charity golf tournament. They will help our efforts in opening doors to a world of opportunities for the children of rural China.”

“We are once again delighted to have this chance to work with Yao Foundation to bring educational opportunities to China’s rural children. Marriott East China is not just about opening new hotels; what we care about is building – building people, building economies and building communities,” said Michael Malik, Area Vice President of Marriott International for East China.

“Serving our world” is one of Marriott International’s core values. The company is committed to making a contribution to the well-being of the communities in which it operates and "making the world a better place."

Besides this annual charity golf tournament, a black tie gala dinner will take place in October and is the other major annual fundraising activity Marriott East China hotels organize to raise funds for the Yao Foundation.
