South Korean cyclist Na Ah-reum won the women’s road race to claim her second Asian Games gold medal in sweltering conditions near Jakarta yesterday.

The 2014 time trial champion crossed the line in two hours 55 minutes 47 seconds, 80 secs ahead of China’s Pu Yixian, with Eri Yonamine of Japan third.

Temperatures hit 32 Celsius as the riders traversed the 104.4 kilometers course east of the capital city.

In Palembang, the Games’ co-host city, Nandinzaya Gankhuyag led a Mongolian one-two in the women’s 50 meter rifle three positions.

Gankhuyag shot a Games record 458.8 to wrestle the title away from defending champion and compatriot Narantuya Chuluunbadrakh, while Iran’s Mahlagha Jambozorg took the bronze.

About 17,000 athletes and officials are taking part in the two-week, 40-sport regional Olympics — the biggest sports event in Indonesia’s history.
