Shanghai City Games to kick off next month

The 16th Shanghai City Games will be held from September 28 to November 10, and 30,000 athletes from around the city are expected to participate.

The games will cover all summer Olympics disciplines except for triathlon. Winter Olympic sports like curling and figure skating will continue to be included, as well as 11 new entries including ice hockey, skateboarding, and rock climbing.

The participants will be divided into two groups – youth and school. Youth group competitions will feature athletes born after September 1, 1990, who will represent districts. School group competitions are for athletes born between September 1, 1990, and August 31, 2000, and they will represent schools.

The opening ceremony will be held at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics on September 28. 

The Shanghai City Games is held once every four years, and aims to promote sport among the younger generation.
