Four amateur teams will represent Shanghai when they compete at the 2018 China Croquet Championship Finals to be held in Datong, north China's Shanxi Province, on December 8-11.

The four teams — one each from Minhang District’s Hongqiao Town and from the Pudong New Area’s Gaodong Town as well as the SINOPEC Shanghai team, and a team sent by a sanatorium in Yangpu District — qualified for the finals by finishing in the top four at the Shanghai Jiangqiao Cup Croquet Finals in suburban Jiading District.

Some 100 teams from around the city took part in the Shanghai finals, featuring nearly 1,000 participants. The top four teams emerged following some tense battles during the preliminary, group and knockout rounds.

Croquet used to be a sport that was enjoyed more by seniors. It has been promoted among the younger generation as well as in some Shanghai primary and middle schools over the past few years.

Jointly organized by the Shanghai Social Sport Management Center, the Jiading District Sports Bureau, the Jiangqiao Town government and the Shanghai Croquet Association, the Shanghai event also served as a series competition for the 2018 Shanghai Amateur Games.
