Qingdao Tianze Team is awarded as winner of the IRC Group after the first phase of the China Open Sailing tournament.

Team Qingdao and Shenzhen took the upper hand in the inaugural China Open Sailing tournament, leading the IRC Group and General Group respectively after the first phase of the race from Dalian to Shanghai.

Organized by the Chinese Yachting Association and Dalian Sports Bureau, the competition is China’s first A-Class offshore sailing tournament, featuring six all-Chinese teams competing with single keel sail boats no smaller than 43 feet.

The race started from Dalian in Liaoning Province on September 23. The teams overcame challenges including big waves and fishing net obstacles along China’s Bohai, Huanghai and Donghai Sea areas before reaching Shanghai.

Qingdao Tianze Team placed first in the IRC Group, while Shenzhen Chuanqi Team led the General Group after the first phase.

The six teams are leaving Shanghai on September 30 for Quanzhou, Fujian Province, the terminal city of the second phase. The route will end in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, on October 7.
