2018 Ironman 70.3 held on Chongming Island
The 2018 Ironman 70.3 Shanghai Chongming Station was held at Mingzhu Lake Park in the southwest of Chongming Island on Sunday.
Portugal's Filipe Azevedo won the first prize in the men's professional competition while Caroline Steffen of Switzerland took the honors among women.
The contest attracted more than 1,290 “ironmen and ironwomen” from 56 countries and regions — aged between 19 and 73, who were divided into professional, age and relay groups.
The Chongming station of Ironman 70.3 is one of the largest stations in China. Ironman 70.3 means 70.3 miles (113 kilometers), 1.9km swimming, 90km bicycling and 21.1km running.
“This is my third time at Ironman 70.3 in China and I am glad to have won first prize in such a nice racing environment,” said Azevedo, who settled down in Ningbo, neighboring Zhejiang Province, four months ago. “We all love China very much.”
“The bicycle race track was flat and safe while the landscape of the running path around the lake was enchanting, allowing us to compete with confidence and concentration,” Steffen added.
