Shanghai fans focus on Spanish derby
Shanghai fans watch a live broadcast of the match between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
A La Liga public viewing event gathered hundreds of Shanghai fans for the "Spanish national derby" on Sunday night.
The match between Barcelona and arch-rivals Real Madrid was captured on over 30 4K cameras inside the Camp Nou stadium, and was screened live at Shanghai’s China Shipbuilding Corporation Pavilion.
The event also attracted La Liga ambassador and former Barcelona winger Patrick Kluivert, Fernando Sanz, who spent 11 seasons with Real Madrid and Malaga CF, as well as former Shanghai Greenland Shenhua goalkeeper Wang Dalei.
“La Liga is committed to bringing fans in China the unique viewing experience and continue to strengthen the presence in the Chinese market," said Sergi Torrents, La Liga’s managing director in China.
The event lasted till 1am Shanghai time on Monday with Barcelona striker Luis Suarez scoring a hat-trick to help his side thrash Real 5-1, opening up a one-point gap at the top of the league.
