Victor Pereira is happy with his team’s performance despite Shanghai SIPG’s setback in the AFC Champions League. The Chinese Super League defending champion lost 0-1 to K League side Ulsan Hyundai in their first-round group match yesterday.

“I’m satisfied with the team’s performance. Everyone was playing hard, running a lot and trying to create chances,” SIPG’s Portuguese manager Pereira said after the match. “1-1 would have been a fairer score, but this is football. Both sides created a few scoring opportunities and our opponents seized one.”

It was also SIPG’s first loss in all battle fields in the new season, which fell to the second place of Group H.

“It’s a very close group, but we still have a chance. I believe we have the quality to advance from the group,” added Pereira.

The match was held at Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium. Back in Shanghai, the club joined Tsingtao Brewery and invited 200 SIPG fans to watch the match in a shopping center in Yangpu District.

It has been the club’s tradition to organize local fans to cheer for the team from a distance for ACL away matches. Apart from live broadcasting, interactive games and lucky draws were also arranged.

SIPG’s next ACL match will be against Sydney FC in Australia on April 10.
