Half marathon held in Songjiang
The 2019 G60 Shanghai Sheshan Half Marathon was held in Songjiang District on Sunday, attracting 10,000 runners from 26 countries and regions.
Organized by the Chinese Athletic Association, Songjiang District and Shanghai Sports Federation, the event included 21-kilometer races for men and women, with 143 overseas participants from countries including Australia, Ethiopia and Japan.
Paul Kariuki Mwangi from Kenya won the men’s race clocking 1:02:08. His compatriot Kabura Janet Njeri became the women’s champion in 1:15:22.
Both races started and finished at Happy Valley amusement park and passed Songjiang landmarks including Sheshan National Forest Park, Sheshan Botanical Garden and Yuehu Sculpture Park.
Over 450 medical staff, 1,460 volunteers and 2,020 security staff provided services for the runners.
The event raised 30,000 yuan (US$4,500) in registration fees for a charity building photovoltaic power systems in the plateau area.
