Shanghai Stadium is one of the five starting spots of this year's Shanghai Orienteering Challenge.

The 2019 China Coordinates Shanghai Orienteering Challenge attracted over 20,000 citizens, who were divided into groups and had to complete various tasks along 36 routes by walking or taking public transport on Saturday.

As a popular urban activity, Orienteering Challenge which has been held in Shanghai for nine years aims at promoting a healthy lifestyle by encouraging people to walk out of home and enhance team spirit during the game.

Compared to previous years, new routes and tasks, including a family route, were added into this year’s event. Organizers received more registration applications than before, and only 30 percent of them got in through a lucky draw.

Participants experienced skiing on simulators and completed garbage sorting tasks.

Some routes were designed to echo the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, involving historical sites for participants to learn about the history of Shanghai’s liberation.

According to the organizers, about 56 percent of participants were born in the 1990s, and women accounted for over half of all participants this year. Under cooperation with charity group BeYoureyeS, this year’s event has invited some blind and vision-impaired participants, who were paired to volunteers to complete the tasks.
