Chinese players pocketed both men's and women's titles at the 2019 World 9-Ball China Open which concluded at Pudong's Tangzhen County on Sunday.

Wu Jiaqing edged Philippines’ Anthony Cortes Raga 11-10 in a closely fought final to win the men’s championship.

It’s also Wu’s second title after being crowned in the tournament in 2016.

Wu was taking a 10-7 lead for a match point in the best-of-21 final. However, Raga managed to pull three frames back to tie the score at 10-10 before Wu held his nerve to claim for the decider.

The women’s competition was less tense for China’s Chen Siming, who overcame her opponent Rubilen Amit, also from the Philippines, 9-3 in the best-of-17 final. It was Chen’s third title after lifting the trophy in 2010 and 2016.

Three Chinese women players — Chen Siming, Liu Shasha and Han Yu — occupied three positions in the last-four, while three Chinese men players advanced to the last-eight. It was China’s best run in the tournament’s 11-year history.
