Short track World Cup event in Pudong
The 2019/20 ISU World Cup Short Track speedstaking tournament will hold its Shanghai leg at Pudong’s Oriental Sports Center on December 6-8, according to organizers.
As the fourth stop on the six-leg calendar, the Shanghai event is expected to attract more than 230 skaters from home and abroad, including young Shanghai-based skater Song Jiahua, who made his international debut at the second stop of this year’s World Cup in Montreal, Canada, taking part in 1,000-meter and 1,500-meter competitions.
Chinese skaters performed well in the previous two stops held in North America. Olympic champion Wu Dajing defended his 500 title in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Chinese women’s team won the 3,000 relay in both stops. China also won a gold medal in the 2,000 mixed relay in Montreal.
Other top foreign skaters expected to feature in Shanghai include Russia’s South Korean-born skater Ahn Hyun-soo and Kim Boutin of Canada.
