Serial offender charged for stealing crayfish

A serial thief has been charged after stealing more than 15kg of crayfish valued at around 1,000 yuan (US$146) from a restaurant.

The 60-year-old man, surnamed Xue, from Shanghai, was caught on the restaurant’s CCTV monitor sneaking into the eatery around 6am, removing a full box of crayfish from freezer, before riding away on his electric scooter.

Xue said he had momentarily lost his mind after being questioned by police.

An investigation revealed that Xue had stolen crayfish from the same restaurant twice while he has also been prosecuted five times in the last 20 years.

The man is currently unemployed.
