A woman stepped onto a damaged covering and slipped into an escalator well near a Metro station exit in Shenzhen, south China’s Guangdong Province, on the morning of August 26.

Fortunately, she was pulled out by her companion and fellow passengers, escaping serious injury. The woman suffered bruises on her hands and legs and has already been discharged from hospital after being checked out.

As a security video showed, the woman suddenly fell into a well when walking towards an escalator at Cuizhu Station along the Metro Line 3 at 10:14am. Her male companion turned back to drag her out immediately, and was soon helped by several other passengers.

About one minute earlier, an elderly couple bypassed the damaged covering after noticing something abnormal. According to the video, there weren't any signboards to alert passengers of the danger.

The Metro operator apologized to the injured passenger on their official Weibo account on August 27, and promised to punish the responsible parties after an investigation. All escalator well lids had been changed and the operator guaranteed an intensive device inspection to ensure the safety of passengers.
