Man holds toddler dangling by neck from fourth floor window

A man risked his own life to hold onto a 3-year-old girl who was dangling from a fourth floor security window cover by her neck.

The girl was trapped for almost half an hour before firefighters arrived on the scene in Xiaogan City, Hubei Province on August 27.

The girl had her neck trapped in the gap of a security window on the fourth floor of a residential building while her body dangled above the street below.

Chen Fangyong climbed to the fourth floor, stepped onto the security screen and lifted up the girl, gaining precious time before fire fighters arrived on the scene.

Fire fighters tied Chen to the window using a bed sheet while they saved the girl. They were both eventually pulled into the room by rescuers without injury.

Chen woke the girl and told her to keep still after he found she lost consciousness at one point, he said in an interview.

The girl is thought to have climbed out from a windowsill in the living room after her mother went to the market and left her home alone.
