Pregnant woman calmly gives birth in street, refuses medical help

A pregnant woman in Yunfu, Guangdong Province shocked shoppers and passers-by when she gave birth to a baby on the street.

The woman suddenly went into labor while walking on the street on September 2. In a video circulated online, her baby can be seen lying around her feet with blood and amniotic fluid on the ground.

With the help of two female onlookers, the woman moved from the middle of the road to the roadside with her baby boy, whose umbilical cord hadn't yet been cut.

Medical staff arrived on the scene soon after and helped to treat the baby.

The woman was sent to hospital but soon unexpectedly left to continue her shopping at a food store with the baby in hand.

She was soon found again by police and medical staff and taken to Yunfu Hospital of TCM, where she refused to cooperate with medical staff who wanted to perform check-ups on both her and her baby. Hospital staff said they looked in good condition.

Local police said the woman is suspected of suffering from mental illness.
