A group of passengers shocked traffic police by dancing in the middle of an expressway in southwest China’s Sichuan Province on September 5 after their tour bus broke down.

'Dancing grannies' take over expressway after tour bus breaks down

The bus, which was heading back to the provincial capital Chengdu from Xichang, came to a halt due to problems with a tire around 3:40pm, while passing by the south entrance of Niba Mountain Tunnel section along Ya’an-Xichang Expressway.

Highway administrators on duty directed the bus behind some guardrails after the breakdown to ensure the safety of those onboard.

But in an effort to kill time, the passengers got off the bus to dance on the highway despite the risks involved, even setting up sound equipment they brought along. Traffic police warned the group of the danger, stopped the dance and directed them to a safe area.

Passengers boarded the bus again when it was fixed at 4:30pm.
