A man was caught on security camera altering road markings on a busy road in Lianyungang City of Jiangsu Province on November 27, in a bid to get home quicker on his daily commute.

As the video shows, the man, surnamed Cai, painted a straight arrow on a turning lane during breaks in the traffic.

He was soon caught by a patrolling traffic policeman, who he explained his motive to.

Cai said the traffic at the intersection is too heavy during his bus ride home from work every day, so he altered the marking in the hope that it would ease a bit of congestion.

Cai was fined 1,000 yuan (US$151) for this cheeky road altering, which has already been removed by the local traffic department.
