Bus driver's bilingual broadcast amazes netizens

A bus driver in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province has become the latest Internet sensation for his brilliant bilingual bus stop broadcasts, Knews reported.

In footage circulated online, the 50-year-old bus driver, surnamed Ding, can be heard announcing bus stops in both Chinese and English.

Ding told a reporter that the stop announcements system installed in the bus would sometimes break down. He worried his passengers would miss their stops.

Since he can speak a bit of English, Ding told his bosses that he was happy to announce stops himself bilingually.

Ding practices English at home every day — if he runs into problems he will often ask for language advice from passengers.

Many passengers applauded him for his good service and said his broadcast is more natural and flexible than the artificial broadcast system.

Chinese netizens were also amazed at his accurate English pronunciation, with one commenting, "I'm encouraged by his story — never too old to learn!"
