Metro staffer's 8 second act touches netizens

An 8-second surveillance video showing a female Metro staffer trying her best to stop a boy before an escalator, avoiding unforeseen tragedy, has touched the hearts of Chinese netizens.

The incident happened on January 18 at Sakura Park Station of Metro Line 1 in Ningbo when the staffer, Huang Haixia, found a toddler walking alone towards an escalator going in the opposite direction, CCTV reported.

She swooped in to grab the boy but failed to catch him, slipping over in the process. She then quickly got up and grabbed the boy, holding him in her arms.

Though Huang sprained her ankle in the incident, she felt relieved that she protected the boy from injury.

The boy's mother and grandma took him and another child to take the subway that day. But when others were passing through the security check, the boy himself squeezed under the turnstile of the exit gate and got into the station.

Chinese netizens praised the Metro staffer for her being so attentive and reminded all parents to keep their children in sight at all times.
