Firemen perform daring rescue of woman threatening suicide

Firemen in Shanghai performed a daring rescue to save a woman threatening suicide while perched on a seventh-floor window ledge, the Shanghai Fire Bureau said.

The woman could have fallen from the window at any time, as both her legs were dangling outside the window, the bureau said, adding that the woman was threatening to end her life over family conflicts.

Firefighters decided to take the initiative to save the woman after officers and workers of a neighborhood committee failed to persuade her to come back inside.

Rescuers found no place to set up an air cushion as there was an entrance hall directly under the window.

So fireman Zhou Chao rappeled swiftly down a rope from the eighth floor and pushed the woman inside. The entire maneuver was over in seconds.

The woman suffered no injuries in the incident, the bureau said.
