Man saves boy after falling down manhole

A man in Xining, Qinghai Province, risked his own safety to save a boy who fell down a sewage manhole on April 22, Knews reported.

The faulty manhole cover suddenly overturned, causing the 3-year-old boy, who was standing on top of it, to fall down the hole.

A woman who was looking after the boy and another child soon rushed to his aid, calling out to a man nearby for help.

That man, Li Mingjun, ran to the manhole, pulled out his belt and asked his wife to hold one end. Li then climbed into the hole without hesitation, holding the other end of the belt.

After about 40 minutes, Li and the boy were finally pulled to safety with the help of other residents in the community.

Neither of them were severely injured in the incident.

The manhole cover, which has now been repaired, is reported to have become damaged over time.
