Nearly US$40,000 in lost cash returned to owner
A bag containing 250,000 yuan (US$39,222) in cash was returned to its owner thanks to an armed policeman and an honest citizen, Knews reported.
The armed policeman, Wu Yunchao, and the citizen picked up the bag in a carriage on Shanghai's Metro Line 1 on May 19.
They immediately handed it in to subway police, who discovered there was a laptop and 250,000 yuan cash inside.
Police soon found its owner, surnamed Peng, based on the ID card number on a residence permit found in the bag.
Peng told police the cash was the salaries of more than 40 construction workers and a worker's surgery fee, which was needed to save the worker's life.
The next day, Peng went to the office building of the armed police force to thank Wu in person for his help.
He also offered to give Wu a reward of 10,000 yuan, which the policeman rejected.
