A 20-year-old university student in southwest China has tugged at the heart strings of netizens for the selfless care she gives her aged grandmother who has hemiplegic paralysis, and her father who suffers from brain damage, since she was a high school student, Sichuan's Newssc.com reported.

Since she was 16 years of age, Dai Lifei has been looking after her grandmother and her father. “Caring for them is my responsibility and duty that I must perform,” she said.

Four years ago, Dai's grandmother, in her 80s, was hospitalized because of a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. As no one in the family could care for her, the family decided to send her to a nursing home.

But when Dai saw her grandmother at the nursing home, she decided to take care of her grandmother herself, while at the same time going to high school.

“Because of the disease, my grandmother had to lie in bed for a long time," Dai recalled.

“She would sweat easily, so I needed to change her clothes four times a day. Every action required a gentle treatment because her health situation wasn’t so good.”

Later, Dai was admitted by Chengdu University, majoring in nursing. In consideration of her exceptional case, the university arranged a house where her and her grandmother could live together. Her father was taken care of by one of their relatives and she would go back to their own home every weekend.

Dai said taking care of her grandmother and her father is not a burden, and that they are her everything.

“I feel grateful to everyone who helped us, and I really hope I can help someone who needs me,” Dai said.
