Zhong Fengmin and his birth father, Liang Hua, hug each other at Guangzhou's Baiyun International Airport on July 1, 2018.

A girl who was lost at the age of 5 was finally reunited with her family 13 years after she went missing, thepaper.cn reported.

Zhong Fengmin, who is now living in the United States, hugged her birth father, Liang Hua, at Guangzhou's Baiyun International Airport in Guangdong Province on July 1 during their first meeting after more than a decade.

Zhong released information online to search for her birth parents this April, stating that she became lost at the age of 5 in Zhongshan City, also in Guangdong, and was later given the name "Zhong Fengmin" by a local welfare home.

In 2012, she was adopted by an American couple and has now been admitted by the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

The information was discovered by Liang who never gave up his efforts to find his missing daughter since she disappeared in 2005.

DNA matching finally confirmed their relationship, the Public Security Bureau of Shunde District, where Liang and his family now live, said.

Liang's daughter went missing on May 20 in Zhongshan when Liang was working in neighboring Foshan City's Shunde District.

Though the family searched for the girl for a long time, their efforts were all in vain.

During the ordeal, the father's weight decreased to 49 kilograms from his original 69 kg.

At the beginning of May, Liang was so excited when he found the information released by Zhong online because it matched closely with his missing daughter.

Zhong flew from the US to Guangzhou and met with her birth parents on July 1.
