A kindergarten teacher in south China has been detained for allegedly beating a child who wouldn't take a nap at noon on August 6, local police announced.

A netizen posted a video on August 7 claiming that the daughter of her sister's friend was beaten and scolded by a teacher at her kindergarten in Guangzhou's Zengcheng, Guangdong Province.

In the footage, a woman can be seen pushing a little girl to the ground and hitting her several times.

A diagnosis sheet provided by another netizen showed the girl, 2 years and 11 months old, suffered multiple bruises over her body, including swelling over her right eye socket.

A preliminary investigation by police found the teacher, 20, surnamed Huang, pushed and beat the girl, surnamed Zhong, who is a newcomer to the kindergarten.

Huang has been detained for mistreating the toddler and further investigation is underway.

The local education bureau said in a statement that the principle of the kindergarten, surnamed Chen, has made an apology on behalf of the kindergarten and replaced three teachers from Zhong's class.

It also told thepaper.cn that the kindergarten was ordered to suspend all classes and rectify their issues this month.
