Siblings who lost mother in fire receive large donations from public

A brother and sister from Henan Province who lost their mother in a fire have received almost 290,000 yuan (US$42,375) in donations from warm-hearted residents.

A brother and sister from Xuchang in central China’s Henan Province who lost their mother in a fire have received almost 290,000 yuan (US$42,375) in donations from warm-hearted residents, thepaper.cn reported.

Li Jianjun, father of the two, pulled a banner alongside a road on August 16 to show his appreciation to the neighbors for their rescue efforts.

The brother and sister were trapped with their mother in a residential apartment located on the city’s Xiangyang Road during a fire on August 3.

Their mother threw them one by one from the fifth floor as a last resort after she dropped a bed sheet for people downstairs to use as a rescue net. She failed to survive after helping her kids out.

According to Li, the elder son has been discharged from hospital and will attend school this September, while his daughter, who is less than 3 years old, will stay in hospital for one more month and receive psychological counseling.

They have not yet been informed of the death of their mother. Li said he would tell them at an appropriate time.
