Woman punished after occupying stranger's seat on train

A woman was banned from buying train tickets for 180 days after forcibly occupying another passenger's seat on a train from Yongzhou to Shenzhen on September 19, Guangzhou railway authorities said on Thursday.

The 32-year-old woman, surnamed Zhou, was also fined 200 yuan (US$29) for "disturbing the order on public transport," Hengyang railway police announced.

Zhou sat in a stranger's seat instead of her own and refused to move, even after train staff became involved.

Her behavior sparked fury among Chinese netizens after video of the incident circulated online on Wednesday.
