A 75-year-old woman has been dubbed "Mooncake Granny" for making the tasty treat to present to nursing homes, sanitation workers and neighbors.

Shen Yue'e, who once made mooncakes at the Haining Food Factory in Zhejiang Province, has made more than 60,000 free mooncakes in the past six years, people.cn reported.

Her charity effort began when her grandson bought her an oven and encouraged her to make meat-stuffed mooncakes for elderly people in nursing homes.

She struggled at first as she hadn't made mooncakes for 18 years but kept trying until her skills returned, even giving up some of her sleeping time to ensure her mooncakes were fresh.

She said it was tiring work but it made her happy.

"When they eat my meat-stuffed mooncakes, they will know that the Mid-Autumn Festival is coming," she said.

Mooncakes are popular at celebrations for the festival, which falls on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, or September 24 this year.
