A pregnant nurse won the hearts of Chinese netizens after video of her performing CPR on an elderly man at an intersection in east China went viral online, Xinhua news agency reported. 

The man's head was seriously injured and he fell unconscious after being hit by a car at the crossroads of Luoxing Road and Shijia Road in Jiashan, Zhejiang Province, at 7:40am on October 11.

Chen Lingli, who came across the accident, immediately knelt down on the ground and tried to resuscitate the unconscious man for around 14 minutes before an ambulance arrived.

Chen is pregnant and works as a nurse at the Emergency Department of The First People's Hospital of Jiashan, the report said.

She left the scene soon after and never mentioned the incident to anyone, but her story became widely known after local police published the Good Samaritan case on WeChat.

Unfortunately the man died in hospital despite the nurse's ardent rescue effort.

A local traffic police officer, Shi Xiaonan, called on more citizens who have professional skills like Chen to lend a helping hand during such emergencies in the future.
