A field of pink plants that went viral online in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, has recently been cut down due to widespread damage caused by tourists, Hangzhou's City Express reported on October 14.

The flower field, located in the city’s riverside park and covering more than 6,600 square meters, was popular for a plant introduced from Australia, known by its scientific term “muhlenbergia capillaries.”

The pink plant soon became a sensation on China’s popular mini video platform Douyin, known as Tik Tok overseas, and attracted crowds of visitors. Some even lay down on the plants to take photos.

The plants usually live two and a half months, according to a gardener, surnamed Zheng.

Zheng said she had planted the same plant for three consecutive years and felt heart-broken as they were destroyed only three days after debuting to the public this year.
