The 62-year-old patient, surnamed Liao, had planned to enjoy the Spring Festival holiday with his daughter in Australia, but a sudden burst of disease forced him to return home for treatment.

Liao was admitted to the Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital on January 25 where he was diagnosed with a liver abscess.

During his stay in hospital that lasted more than 20 days, the avid drawer recorded daily life with his pen.

"It makes me feel very warm," a doctor named Tang Xiaoying said. "It encouraged me to work even harder and provide better services for our patients in the future."
