Off-duty policeman voluntarily directs traffic amid heavy rain
A “warm-hearted resident” who voluntarily directed traffic for over an hour amid rain in east China’s Zhejiang Province on February 20 turned out to be an off-duty traffic policeman, thepaper.cn reported.
As a security video showed, there was a traffic jam at the intersection of Beimen Street and Zhongshan Road W. in downtown Tongxiang City around 9:30am on the first day of spring semester of school.
A netizen recorded a man helping direct traffic using professional gestures and posted it online, which won netizens’ applause.
Yan Huidong took his kid to school for the new semester registration as well that day, the report said.
He found himself caught in the traffic at the intersection after he completed school registration. He began to help ease the traffic, which became smooth again after he volunteered for about an hour.
Yan said what happened that day was "duty-bound" and quite common for him. He would assist in handling traffic accidents on the road to the best of his ability, whether he was on duty or not.
