'Hero' held responsible for deadly accident
A man from Langfang City in north China’s Hebei Province who sacrificed his life to save a 4-year-old girl who had wandered out into a busy road on March 9, is being held partially responsible for the fatal accident, The Beijing News reported.
A road surveillance video showed the man rushd to the little girl and hold her in his arms when he saw her alone in the middle of the street. They were both knocked down by a truck as they tried to return to the side of the road.
The man, Hou Zhenlin, lost his life and the girl suffered a brain injury in the accident. The county government awarded Hou a title of honor on April 8.
However, traffic police concluded that the truck driver, the girl’s guardians and Hou were equally responsible as Hou failed to check if it was safe before crossing the street and had not obeyed the traffic law.
Hou Wei, son of the dead man, said the police conclusion was unfair and he planned to personally submit a charge against the driver of the truck and its owner.
