Legislators demand better protection of personal data

Qian Yiliang, a legislator from the Baoshan District, and seven other deputies have proposed that new laws should better protect citizens' personal information.

With the rapid development of information processing and storage, misuse of  personal information is more serious, the proposal pointed out, so new policies and measures are required as soon as possible.

The proposal suggested clearer regulations on collection, processing and use of personal information. The different categories of personal information that can be collected by various kinds of enterprises should also be clarified.

Qian said information on minors needs special protection.

Penalties for violations should also be explicitly included in the policy, according to the proposal.
