Shanghai is upgrading its one-stop city management platform with digital technologies to help in the fight against COVID-19, predict bad weather and prepare for events such as this year’s China International Import Expo, officials said on Monday.

The platform, supported by big data, cloud and artificial intelligence, integrates the data of 22 bureaus in 33 categories that include public security, transport, health care, weather forecasting, public utilities and environmental protection, according to the City Operations Center, which runs the platform.

For example, the local health-care regulator took just 70 hours to develop a management system for traffic from overseas with improved efficiency and accuracy to combat the risks and loopholes presented by imported COVID-19 cases.

The system, which has been in use since Saturday, will soon be adopted on the upgraded platform, said Feng Jun, a senior official with the city’s health commission.

Meanwhile, 3D image weather messages have been used on the platform, giving fresh and accurate information to the public security and transportation bureaus.

This helps protect citizens and property when facing bad weather such as heavy wind and rain, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
